Chicken Math

Brazen Bounty Homestead learned first hand just how real Chicken Math truly is. What started out as a fun little purchase of a handful of cute chicks has led to an empire, or henpire, if you will or even if you won’t.

One of the straight-run chicks in the first flock turned out to be a rooster – but that fact wouldn’t become known until much later. That one rooster led to many more. More hens. More roosters. And so on, and so on, and scooby dooby do.

Nature was helped a bit by modern technology. Especially when the Homestead learned that none of the hens seemed to have an ounce of motherly instinct – they simply weren’t broody and nothing was able to convince them to be so.

So, as an experiement, the Homestead bought a little incubator to see what could be done. Lo, and behold! It done good.

As you can see, these little guys are excited about life. They have no idea the freedom, sprawling acres, and plentiful worms from the vermiculture farm that would be greeting them on their arrival to Mother Earth.

For now, they are safe and warm in their incubator and will be nestled gently into a cozy brooder for the first few weeks of their life. After that they will be introduced to the rest of the folk, their parents for all intents and purposes, and will thrive on the land, living their best life.
